CoLab Exhibition 2014

Viewpoint Gallery

CoLab 2014 provided an opportunity for Chloe Neath and 'The Laudanum Project' to present an exclusive preview of their current project.

"I am working on a Graphic Novel with the the very talented theatre group, 'The Laudanum Project'. I met them after seeing one of their performances at the old Sandhurst Gaol in Bendigo. The writer/performer Nick Ravenswood creates incredibly powerful, sometimes sinister, but always eloquent writing for his characters. At the time I was creating a drawing of a woman recoiling in horror but couldn't decide how to finish it. I heard a recording by 'The Laudanum Project' called The Spider and The Fly' and it inspired me to add long sinister spider legs to my drawing. This was the image we used for last year's CoLab exhibition alongside The Spider and The Fly spoken word poem.

After CoLab Nick suggested that we collaborate on a novel he had been working on called The Baby Farmer and turn it into a graphic novel together. The artwork and writing we have entered into CoLab is an exclusive preview of a key scene created for The Baby Farmer novel. It contains the central characters and combines a large detailed charcoal drawing with a written excerpt that, when viewed together, are both unsettling and beautifully intricate. The drawing is the result of around sixty hours in the studio."
