Each face is hand drawn using charcoal with the occasional addition of gold leaf, silver leaf and coloured pastel. The drawings are typically large, often measuring over a metre square and are usually on thick brown craft paper. Many of the people I draw are known to me but often it is the faces of strangers that attract me due to the detail, shadows or strength in a facial expression.
